Spread Betting Trading Centre: What are the most common mistakes that spread betters make?
CMC Markets: Again, it’s not so much a spread bet focussed one but financial trading in general. First of all traders should think about where they are going to get out on a trade if it does not go the right way. Sticking your head in the sand when a trade is going against you can be an expensive strategy. It is also important to think about the size of your trades. If you have £200 in your account and you are trading the Dow £1 per point, it would not take too much of an exceptional movement against you to wipe your account out, so don’t trade too big compared to the size of your account.

You may lose more than your initial stake and should only speculate with funds you can afford to lose. Spread betting and its tax benefits are only available to those resident in the UK and Ireland, so overseas we offer CFD and FX trading. CFD trading has become immensely popular in the last couple of years in Europe, Asia and Australia. Our FX products are available in the US and China.

CMC Markets: Stock markets have continued the strong trends that have been in place since late 2002 for the US and early 2003 for the UK. Whether this will still be the case remains to be seen.
Spread Betting Trading Centre: What are your predictions for the market for the next couple of months?
CMC Markets: ‘It will fluctuate’ is the sitting on the fence answer….the big levels to watch are 7000 on the FTSE and 1555 on the S&P500. These are the all time highs and we need to see these levels broken to suggest there is still more upwards moment left for these markets.
